I'm Gem Hicks, a Bristol-based photographer. I created Pantry & Place as a home for my food, interiors and lifestyle photography, which I capture throughout Somerset, Bath, the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and the South West.

I’ve loved being behind a lens for as long as I can remember. After studying illustration for my degree in 2008 and later completing a photography diploma, I developed a style that combines an artistic eye with a love of natural storytelling. Photography quickly became more than a hobby — it became a way of noticing and celebrating the details that make everyday moments  special.

Today, my work centres around food, interiors, lifestyle and the people behind them. I’m drawn to beautiful light, natural textures and the small details that create atmosphere and connection. Whether it’s a carefully styled dish, a welcoming café, a thoughtfully designed home or a brand with a story to tell, I aim to create photographs that feel authentic, inviting and full of character.

I believe the most meaningful images are the ones that make people feel something — a sense of warmth, nostalgia, comfort or curiosity. My approach is relaxed and collaborative, creating imagery that feels natural while still being carefully considered. Shooting digital with the option of throwing in some film photography.

When I’m not photographing, you’ll probably find me exploring the countryside, enjoying food and a glass of wine, or planning the next interior design project in my own home (I adore all things interiors!). I’m a big believer in the beauty of simple moments — good food, good spaces and good company!
